ATV
In crafting this book, I embarked on a compelling journey to narrate a deeply emotional story using the expressive power of typography alone. For my story, I chose a moment in my life that was intense because the typography would be able to serve as my medium, allowing me to capture and convey the spectrum of emotions inherent in this experience. In the story, my mom falls off of an atv and since I was young so the whole situation was terrifying. To evoke the initial sense of terror, I employed a deliberately chaotic text layout, mirroring the emotions I felt during that moment. As the narrative unfolds, the typographic sequence gradually transforms, reflecting the calming resolution that followed the chaos. Enlarging key phrases accentuates the emotional focal points, ensuring that the reader is immersed in the targeted feelings.
Read MoreThe composition of each page mirrors the scattered nature of the event, with letters flooding the canvas to encapsulate the confusion that enveloped the situation. Following the climactic chaos, the visual narrative transitions to a moment of calm reflection. I articulate a memory lapse with the words, "I do not remember, I just remember being in an ambulance." To infuse a touch of whimsy and convey a sense of recovery, I layered the background with stars, reminiscent of where characters see stars after a being hit in the head. Undertaking the challenge of conveying emotion through sequential pages using only text, I selected phrases and words from the story to integrate into the design of each page. This process allowed me to create a visually engaging and emotionally resonant storytelling experience.
